Welcome to the whelping box. Whelping is the term applied to the act of giving birth to puppies.

We here at Cari-On are not involved in the wholesale production of puppies. We breed a litter only when we are looking for something for ourselves. We only breed the best to the best and screen all our breeding stock for health and soundness prior to breeding. We select for type and soundness of body and temperament.

Because we produce very few litters per year, you may have to wait if you really want a Cari-On puppy. If you are interested in finding out what we do have available or what we may be expecting in the near future, feel free to check our Puppies Available and Upcoming Litters pages, or call us at 310-323-1292 and we'll be happy to tell you about our puppies or add you to our waiting list.

If you have tried that, or are looking for a reputable breeder in your area, we would be happy to help. We are members of the KCA (Keeshond Club of America) and adhere to the KCA's Code of Ethics, as do many breeders throughout the United States. Additionally, Keeshond breeders in other countries adhere to their own club's Code of Ethics. We will be happy to try to help you find such a breeder. We simply ask that you understand we do not get anything for offering this referral service and as such we request you do not ask us to return long-distance phone calls to refer you to other breeders in your area. You may drop us an e-mail or telephone us at 310-323-1292 between the hours of 3pm and 8pm on weekdays or on weekends ... if we aren't at dog shows! If your number is local, leave us a message and we will be happy to return your call. If your number is long distance we ask you to keep trying until you reach us.

However, it is important that you, as a prospective puppy buyer, take some time to research and familiarize yourself with the breed and understand how you can determine that the breeder you have chosen to work with is indeed an ethical, reputable breeder you can trust. We can provide you with some contacts, but ultimately it will be your responsibility to ensure that the breeder you choose is a good one, and one you can work with. To learn more about Keeshonds and the kinds of questions you may want to ask your prospective breeder, refer to our section on FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions and some that should be asked).

Ultimately, we plan to add a section for other breeders to advertise puppies or older dogs they may have available on our web site, or add a link to their own page. But, the details are still being worked out at this time. It will probably entail that any breeder wishing to advertise at our site make a fair donation to the Keeshond Rescue fund in exchange for the advertising privilege. Additionally, dogs available through Keeshond Rescue club members will be provided a link any time, free of charge.

It is heartbreaking for those of us in love with this breed to see so many Keeshonds end up in shelters, puppy mills, dead in the streets or neglected and abused in back yards. Please consider carefully your decision to acquire a pet, don't buy a puppy or adopt a rescue unless you are committed to providing a permanent home and quality care for your pet for the next 15 years. The Keeshond is not a backyard breed, they must be allowed to be a part of the family, in the house with you.

Thank you for visiting our web site. We hope you have found it interesting and informative. If you would like to know more about Cari-On Keeshonden, or you would like to meet us and see our kennel, feel free to contact us via E-mail or telephone us at 310-323-1292 and ask for either Dennis or Rene.
